Foy's
Lake is a man-made lake in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It was created in 1924 by constructing a dam
across the stream that came down from the hills in the northern part of
Chittagong. The purpose of creating an artificial lake was to provide water to
the residence of railway colony. It was named after Mr Foy who was a Railway
engineer and believed to materialized the project. Pahartali was basically a
railway town with workshop, yard and shed. A good number of railway employees
lives there. Presently, a carriage workshop, diesel workshop, loco shed,
laboratory, stores, electric workshop, school (established in 1924) are located
The
Foy's Lake of Chittagong is counted among popular Tourist Attractions in
Chittagong. The lake is located amidst panoramic surroundings and is perfect
for outings and picnics. The Foy's Lake, Chittagong is easily accessible. It is
situated in the railway township of Pahartali, which is 8 kilometers away from
the centre of the city of Chittagong. The place is thronged by thousands of
visitors every week. The city of Chittagong is a wonderful place with green
hills and forests, wide sandy beaches and its fine cool climate.
This beautiful lake
surrounded with lovely hills is situated just east of the Pahartali Railway
Station and West of the Khulshi residential area. This lake attracts thousands
of visitors almost each day. There are small bushy hills around the green water
of the lake. This beautiful artificial lake was created in 1942 by the Bengal
Railways Engineer Mr. Foy for providing drinking water. So it was named after
him. This lake is 8 km. away from the Zero point. There are some snack bar,
restaurants in the lake area. One can enjoy beautiful sunset scene from the
peak of the hills.
This lake is a
natural beauty of Chittagong, where you can enjoy boating and also you can
spend your leisure time in a serene atmosphere of lake and hills.
